Murukku is a crunchy snack origin from Indian subcontinent and popular in South India and Sri Lanka. It is also popular in other country where Indian’s substantial presence including Singapore and Malaysia.
Murukku is made by urad dal flour and rice flour. It looks similar with chakli but chakli made by different ingredients.
Usually this snack could be found at pasar(morning/night market), roadside stall or mamak stall or Indian restaurant especially during Festival Deepavali(Celebration for Indian)
There are various type of Murukku such as Kai murukku, which made by hand using stiffer dough. However, Pakoda murukku is also well-known snack which is ribbon-shaped.
Although it is a fried snack and it looks unhealthy but still highly consume by Malaysian.
Today, even Chinese will have it as a snack to serve their guest especially during Chinese New Year.
